Scientists are already aware that physical activity will help lower the risk of adult depression. A new study suggests that young active adults, relative to their sedentary counterparts, are less likely to experience depression symptoms by age 18. Active 12-year-olds are less likely to experience depression symptoms by age 18 than their peers who are more sedentary, a new study suggests. “Our findings show that young people who are inactive during adolescence for large proportions of the day face a higher risk of depression by age 18,” reports Aaron Kandola, a doctoral student at University College London, United Kingdom. There are many unanswered questions about the novel Coronavirus, such as “how does the virus transmitted?” And where did it come from? “Now, researchers based in China say they think that the pangolin— a scaly, but harmless mammal eating ants— may have spread the virus to humans. Researchers point the pangolin to the novel coronavirus as a possible carrier. When coronaviruses spread to humans, it is generally the carrier of the virus via contact with an animal. Nccmed has recently published a comprehensive article on the new virus which explains that some of the most common coronavirus carriers are bats.…
Scientists have found that tuberculosis strains (TBs) with an allegedly lethal mutation can actually survive — and that the mutation makes the bacteria resistant to a significant antibiotic. Uppsala University scientists in Sweden have discovered that tuberculosis can survive a mutation that theoretically should kill it. In addition, the team found that this mutation had made antibiotic rifampicin resistant to the affected TB strains. Rifampicin is the most effective first-line medicine for the treatment of TB infections according to the World Health Organization (WHO). The researchers described their discovery in the journal Proceedings of the United States of America’s National…
New research uses high-quality data to find that type 2 diabetes drug rosiglitazone increases by 33 per cent the risk of adverse cardiovascular events. New research suggests a type 2 diabetes medication is placing cardiovascular health at risk. Rosiglitazone is a drug developed originally for the treatment of type 2 diabetes. It was approved in 1999 by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) under the name Avandia. While Europe has suspended the drug because of concerns about its adverse effects on heart health, and the United States has restricted its use, research on its safety has produced mixed…
Penile melanosis is a rare condition that causes the head and shaft of the penis to have discoloured areas of the skin. These stains are dark brown and may be somewhat or significantly darker on the penis than the surrounding skin. No other symptoms result from penile melanosis. The disease is neither contagious nor infectious, and there is no way to pass it on to others. The exact cause is yet unknown, though. Melanosis of the penile is generally harmless, and requires no treatment. However, some people may opt for cosmetic procedures to remove the spots. Learn more about penile…
